MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective: Alert, hissing and growling in the cat den
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/25/17 Just returned from medical. Very agitated, tense posture, eyes dilated. Near constant growling and hissing. Briefly stood in place on approach, then retreated into den, still vocalizing. Left alone for now. Sprayed feliway. 10/26/17 Lying down by the front, calm and relaxed. Perks up when offered treats and eats it immediately. Tried to clicker train, but he started to grumble and whine. He eventually allowed gentle petting when hand slowly extends, and he head-butts! He continues to grumble though and seems conflicted, but he always eats treats when offered. Kept interaction short, but he did well today! Lied down by the front after interaction and had a relaxed body posture.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Ramon remains neutral, lying down on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Ramon meows and stands up when spoken to.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Ramon engages the front with soft body and tail up.
Reaction to touch:: Ramon accepts the touch, but low growls while seeking attention and purrs. However, while appreciating the petting he randomly hisses and growls.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Lively
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Curious,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Ramon may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
