***SAFE 11/03/17*** RADHA ALLOWS GENTLE PETTING AND A SOFT APPROACH AND NEEDS RESCUE TONIGHT! Radha is a shy girl whose owner brought in because he has too many pets. She needs someone who will give her some time to come out of her shell on her terms. WHY NOT GIVE RADHA THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER SHE DESERVES? RESERVE BY NOON!
Hello, my name is Radha. My animal id is #9224. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 08-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as poor choice – too many animals already.
Radha 9224 is at-risk for behavior concerns (Experienced determination). She initially displayed fearful behavior and hisses when approached for interaction, tolerating soft petting. Over the course of her stay in the care center, she has warmed up slowly to attention, however. She still displays tense body postures, but she acclimated to her caretakers and has started to appreciate attention. There is no noted medical condition for Radha at this time.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
KNOWN HISTORY: Radha is shy and keeps her distance when around strangers. She spent time around a young child and kept her distance. She lived with 10 other cats and got along well with them. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very sweet. Easily handle able. Did well for all medical handling and procedures ENRICHMENT NOTES: 10/09/17 Lying in back of kennel, head lowered onto kennel floor. Tolerates petting along head and body while flattening ears and making eye contact. Needs more time to adjust. Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Radha was crouched in her litter box, watching the assessor with wide eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Radha keeps her tail wrapped at her side, lip licks and remains motionless. Reaction to cage door opening: Radha becomes alert. Reaction to touch: Radha lip licks when the assessor extends his hand out and flinches slightly when touched. Her body feels tense but she slowly unravels herself and leans in when rubbed on her cheeks. After a few soft pets she nudges the assessor’s hand, gives head butts then rises up and slowly approaches the front of the cage. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: None BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experience RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Radha may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
