Pumpkin has not spent time around other cats or dogs so it is unknown how she will react. Behavior: Owner stated that Pumpkin does scratch the furniture in the home. On the way to the ACC in the car Pumpkin was meowing and crying. Pumpkin has only had dry baths due to the fact she is scared of water. She has never had her nails trimmed so it is unknown how she will react. She isn’t bothered if she is brushed. When being held or put in the carrier she will struggle to get away. She isn’t bothered if she is disturbed while she is resting. For a new family to know: Owner described as friendly, affectionate and playful with a medium activity level. Reaction when softly spoken to: Pumpkin chirps and scoots her body closer to the front. Reaction to cage door opening: Pumpkin immediately gets up to greet. Reaction to touch: Pumpkin head-butts and rubs her entire body against the assessor. She walks back and forth and continuously rubs against the assessor, becoming very active. After a moment, she nips the assessor’s hand with moderate pressure and backs away, but when the assessor continues to coax and pets gentler and slower, she will continue to solicit attention while purring. Reaction to pick up: Pumpkin becomes tense and wiggles to be placed back down. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate, Lively VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Affectionate, Insistent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Overstimulation – Pumpkin is social and affectionate but appears get overstimulated with rough petting. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Pumpkin becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Pumpkin solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention. Due to her tendency to nip when excited during an interaction, we recommend she goes to a home with experienced cat parents. Any future home with young children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
