Brooklyn Center
Hello, my name is Pumba. My animal id is #17399. I am a desexed female white cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 31-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit – too many animals already.
Pumba is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Pumba has been nervous in the care center, only allowing limited handling.

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Pumba was brought in without information on her behavior in her previous home. She was reported to have lived in a home with many other cats.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Tense but allowed all handling
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Pumba was pressed against the back wall with her tail wrapped tightly around her body. She had a low body posture.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Pumba remains immobile and does not display a reaction when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Pumba becomes stiff and alert.
Reaction to touch:: Pumba turns her head away and lip licks. She allowed gentle petting, but appears very uncomfortable.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Pumba has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and appears uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Pumba tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to her stress levels in the care center, we recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
