CHARACTER TYPE:

Affectionate
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Pet-induced aggression
Potential challenges comments:
Initially Puffy solicits petting and attention, but after some petting over the body she begins flips her head back and focuses on the assessor’s hand. When warning isn’t heard, she’ll nip gently. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Puffy becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Average
Behavior Asilomar
H – Healthy
RECOMMENDATIONS:
No young children
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Puffy interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but she has a tendency to nip with prolonged petting. Her behavior remains suitable for an adopter with an average amount of experience, provided the adopter is aware of these behaviors and is able to comfortably manage them. Though we believe this cat is displaying behaviors appropriate for new or experienced cat parents, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and be sure to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.
