07/08/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Curious MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/6/17- Observed Behavior – friendly ENRICHMENT NOTES: 7/6/17- In den on approach, stuck head out with some coaxing, eyes dilated. Sniffed assess-a-hand, hissed once, then leaned into pets. Ate nearby treats, then withdrew back into den. Wouldn’t come all the way out. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Puffin remains tense, hiding in the cat den during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Puffin hisses then slowly walks out of the den with tail up, eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Puffin began to lean into the assessor’s hand while kneading in place, but is hesitant and randomly hisses as she continues to solicit attention. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Puffin tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
