04/24/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Sunshine was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She allowed all handling during intake and did not display any signs of aggression. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very quiet, eyes dilated, looks around but does not move. Tense body, tail tapping. No biting, hissing or growling. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 4/17/17 – Laying down towards back, alert, eyes somewhat dilated. Sat up when door opened and sniffed assess-a-hand. Tolerated very brief pets, then moved slowly to other kennel to avoid further touch. Sprayed feliway. 4/18/17 – Resting towards back, very sleepy. Started slow blinking on approach. Became alert when door opened, eyes dilated. Sat up, hissed, tapped assess-a-hand without claws, but did not retreat. Sprayed feliway. 4/19/17- Resting on bedding, facing front, alert, eyes dilated. Stiffened in place when door opened. Leaned away to avoid touch, then hissed and swatted. Ate treats once left alone. Sprayed feliway. 4/20/17 – Asleep on bedding, woke when spoken to. Lay in place, soft eyes and body, repeatedly returned slow blinks. Became alert when door opened, sat up, eyes dilated. Meowed and swatted when attempted pets. Calmed immediately when door closed, pupils constricted, resumed slow blinking. Sprayed feliway. 4/23/17 – Diagnosed with URI, moved to iso. Resting on bedding, seems lethargic today, nose visibly running. Continued to lay in place when door opened. Tolerated pets, seemed too sick to really respond. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Pretty lays on her bedding and looks at the assessor with a neutral gaze. Reaction when softly spoken to: Pretty continues to look at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Pretty stiffens in place and sits up. Reaction to touch: Pretty leans away to avoid the touch, then pushes the assessor’s hand away. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that Pretty is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Pretty tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. She may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only
