ENRICHMENT NOTES:
08/22/17
Lying in back of kennel with a tense body. Watches bear-claw as it reaches forward and begins to rapid breathe. Tolerates petting along head and body while flattening ears and licking lips. Eyes are wide. Needs more time to adjust.
08/23/17
Hiding under bogus paper. I lift the paper and she sniffs the air. Ears are slightly tilted and eyes are alert. She leans in gently when pet along the head, then raises her butt when my hand passes along her back. Her tail is curled in between her legs and her face is tense. She relaxes with continued petting and stands up – comes forward slowly. Leans in for further petting. She begins to eat her dry food – then starts dropping it from her mouth as I close the kennel door. I open the door back up and place the food under her kuranda bed so she can eat while hidden. She goes underneath and continues to eat. Quite nervous, but she’s warmed up since yesterday. Sweet girl. Has potential to do well here.
08/24/17
Hiding underneath her kuranda bed. She curls up tight and slow blinks when I pull up the blanket. Low body posture, tail wrapped at side, timid. I was able to coax her forward by calling her name; she slowly comes forward, eyes dart around. She perks up when touched. Her tail lifts up and she brushes up against my hand and allows petting all over her body. She tends to get startled whenever someone walks by. Starting to build confidence, just needs more time. Tense when picked up, leaps back into the cage.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Shy
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced cat parent – Popeye may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
