POP – A1116131
Safe - 7-15-2017 Brooklyn
*** SAFE 07/15/17 *** POP HAS BEEN ON MANY SHELTER PLEAS AND STILL HAS NO INTEREST. PLEASE HELP HER TODAY! NEW PHOTO! A volunteer writes: Little Pop can be timid. When you first meet her, she might prefer to stay safely tucked up in bed, or even turn away from you. But don’t be discouraged — she loves attention — she just prefers to get to know you first. Once you’ve introduced yourself and spent a little time with her, Pop will be quick to warm up and relax. When you take her home, she might need a little while to get used to her new surroundings, but once she’s comfortable, this sweet kitty is going to love being part of your household.

07/13/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Pop A1116131 was placed At Risk for an Experienced behavior determination; Pop remained cautious of her surroundings during her stay in the care center. She initially hissed whenever approached for interaction, but has warmed up a considerable amount throughout her stay. She will come forward and sniff around, investigating, but may back away and hiss when approached too quickly. She will head-butt as long as the person goes very slow, however she will swat without warning during petting sessions. It may be due to pet induced aggression or she may just become too overwhelmed during interactions.

06/27/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Pop was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Calm for exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 06/22/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel, facing forward. Tolerates petting while backing away and squiting eyes, body tense. Needs more time to adjust. 06/25/17 Lying in litterbox with a low body. Ears tilt and she hisses when I open the cage door and reach towards her. Retreats through portal a couple of times to avoid interaction. I spray feliway and try again later – she’s in her litterbox. Remains in her box when approached slowly and tolerates petting along her head and body while tense with ears tilted. Relaxes after a few minutes of gentle petting and she begins to lean in with her head for chin rubs. Nervous and unsure – needs more time to adjust. 06/27/17 Crouched in her litter box, makes eye contact. She stretches then slowly rises up and rubs her cheeks against the litter box. She lip licks and lowers her body when the door opens. A little skittish. Her body feels a little tense when pet and she takes some time to warm up to touch. Her tail remains lowered but her body perks up when pet. After a few soft pets she leans in for attention and gives soft head butts. I was able to coax her to the front of the kennel with treats. Sweet girl. Didn’t mind being picked up. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Pop may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
