***SAFE 05/17/17 Owner eviction landed Poopsie in the shelter – this cutie needs a furever home! She is nervous and wondering what happened. But has glowing volunteer notes from last stay, A volunteer writes, ” I’m Poopsie, don’t know where a girl from the street got a name like that, but that’s my name. Just give me a minute and I’ll warm up to you. Pet my head, I’ll roll on my side, boy do I enjoy your company, once I get to know you. But don’t forget to give me some chin rubs. I’ll watch you from upside down, boy do you look funny. I would really love to go home with you, then you will see how sweet I am and of course see my beautiful black coat which is soft to the touch.” Another volunteer writes, “Poopsie is a cute name for an even cuter kitty. She’s a little bit of a thing, with big eyes and a sweet disposition. She makes it easy to love her-just pick her up and hold her close. Poopsie will curl right up in your arms and whisper little purrs in your ear. All she asks for in return is a warm and loving forever home.”

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Hissing and swatting EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Poopsie was resting, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Poopsie focuses on the assessor and lip licks. Reaction to cage door opening: Poopsie remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Poopsie pokes her head forward to sniff the assessor’s hand and appears tense. She allows gentle petting on her head and body, slowly closing her eyes. Her ears tilt slightly sideways and she appears wary of her surroundings; she looks around and lip licks during the interaction. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy, Sweet POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Poopsie has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may not be comfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Poopsie tolerates some attention and petting but may not be fully comfortable in the shelter. He may need some time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
