05/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent, Skittish MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/22/17- Observed Behavior – growling and hissing; allows handling when scruffed ENRICHMENT NOTES: 5/23/17- Muscle wasting, dehydrated, possible missing teeth, very dirty fur. Asleep on bedding on approach. Woke when door opened, eyes dilated, wary. Tolerated brief pets while eating treats, then started growling. 5/24/17- Resting in middle of cage, immediately lifted head when spoken to, eyes dilated, alert. Stood and came to the front, sniffing between bars. Began to hiss, growl, and yowl with increasing volume when door opened or offered assess-a-hand. Did not swat or retreat, became intent on eating treats, but clearly uncomfortable. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Ponchito remains distance neutral, body tucked (not tight) during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Ponchito remains in place, head upright, pupils oval. Reaction to touch: Ponchito sniffs the assessor’s hand then allows the touch, but began to grumble with ears erect and slowly distance increases. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Ponchito may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
