06/22/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Pink Floyd was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Allowed all handling without an issues ENRICHMENT NOTES: 06/20/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low body, tail wrapped around him. He tolerates petting along his head and body while tensing his face and turning his head to watch the bear-claw. 06/21/17 Lying flat, facing towards the front of his kennel with his head resting on the kennel floor. He tolerates petting along his head and body while squinting his eyes and backing away with a low body, tail wrapped around him. Not interested in treats today. Needs more time to adjust. Backs all the way around his kennel to avoid being touched. 06/22/17 Lying down completely flat behind his litter box. Turns away and seems to avoid eye contact. He lip licks and leans away when you attempt to pet him. Seems stressed, tense body. He flinches when touched then quickly shifts away to the other side of the double kennel. He tolerates petting along his body but watches with wide eyes. Not really open to interacting. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Pink Floyd has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Pink Floyd tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
