KNOWN HISTORY: Pineapple was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
hissing, growling, swatting, and trying to flee
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor: Pineapple is laying in his den with his littermates.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Pineapple appears nervous. He wraps his tail tightly around his body.
Reaction to cage door opening: Pineapple’s ears flatten and he tries to retreat further behind his littermates to hide.
Reaction to touch: Pineapple hisses and flees to the other side of his kennel. His ears flatten when being pet. He has a low body position and appears uncomfortable.
Reaction to being picked up: Pineapple tries to flee when assessor tries to pick up. When being held, he becomes nervous and shakes. He allows being held for a long period of time. Pineapple enjoys being swaddled in a blanket and after a while relaxes and falls asleep.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish, Timid, Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Kitten Socialization- Pineapple is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes s/he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced, adult home only- Pineapple tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
