02/02/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Pike was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. His finder found him outside inside of a box. Upon opening the box, Pike displayed distance-increasing behaviors and did not want to come out of the box. He displayed the same behaviors during intake, but allowed some handling. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat. Reaction to assessor: Pike looks at the assessor as they approach, but he directs his attention to movement going on in the room and looks around, curious and cautious. Reaction when softly spoken to: Pike ignores the assessor and continues to look around him, wrapping his tail tightly against his body. Reaction to cage door opening: Pike doesn’t appear to notice and continues looking out. Reaction to touch: Pike flinches with initial contact, but will lean forward and sniff the assessor’s hand. He turns his attention back on the room and allows gentle strokes along his head and body. His body twitches when touched and he lowers it slightly, but continues to look around at his surroundings. ENRICHMENT NOTES: Appeared sleepy, disinterested. Lay in place, allowed all pets, no real response. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Displayed distance-increasing behaviors during the exam. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate, Lively VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Curious RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only – Pike tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
