KNOWN HISTORY:: Philly was brought into our care center as a stray so there is no previous history available.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Nervous, scared.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/26/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body. Maintains eye contact as I open the kennel door and tolerates petting while lowering body further and turning head to watch my hand. Ears are flat and eyes are wide. 10/27/17 Tense and crouched in the litter box; ears bent flat, grumbles when approached. Keeps eyes focused on my movements. She flinches when the door opens and slowly shifts away to the back of the cage. She presses her body against the back wall, tail flickers and she is very wary of her surroundings. Wouldn’t come forward when coaxed, continued to grumble throughout interaction. 10/29/17 Lying beneath kuranda bed with a tense face and body. Pupils are dilated and ears are flattened. She tolerates petting along her head and body while leaning away from the bear-claw, head shrinking down into neck.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Philly is lying beneath her kuranda bed with a tense face as body as the assessor approaches
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Philly tilts her ears and makes eye contact when spoken to, pupils dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Philly tenses her body further and backs away as the cage door opens.
Reaction to touch:: Philly tolerates petting along her head and body while leaning away from the assessor’s hand, face and body tense and ears completely flat.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful Cats Philly has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him/her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Experienced, Adult Only Philly tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He/she may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his/her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
