07/12/17 19:57 Animal’s appearance – Persimmon appeared clean and of healthy weight but had scratches on his nose from the trap. Animal’s demeanor with you – Persimmon was not handled. He was brought in a trap which he was trying to flee and was transferred directly into a den. Client stated that a neighbor has a community of cats but they are all altered and he found Persimmon in his yard so he set a trap to trap him to bring him in to SIACC

Upon intake, Persimmon was attempting to flee. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very nervous, attempted to flee, limited exam EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Persimmon looks at the assessor, body tense. Reaction when softly spoken to: Persimmon remains motionless. Reaction to cage door opening: Persimmon hisses, ears flat. Reaction to touch: Persimmon shifts away at first, but allows petting, vocalizes. Reaction to being picked up: Persimmon is tolerant of this type of handling, but vocalizing. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Talkative CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Kitten socialization BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that Persimmon is being treated for an upper-respiratory infection at the time of the assessment, and that this may affect the behaviors shown. RECOMMENDATIONS: – No young children – Experienced cat parent Behavior observations _x_ Experience, no young children Persimmon tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children.
