Details on my behavior are…
KNOWN HISTORY: Perlito has a bite history. He was recently adopted and when his new owner was washing clothes in the bathroom he ran up and bit her ankles. We have limited details and are unaware of the events that led up to the bite or the possible triggers. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Friendly, amenable to exam, no hissing/growling/biting ENRICHMENT NOTES: 10/03/17 At front of kennel, making eye contact with soft eyes and head-butting kennel door. He allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and raising his tail. Remains calm and allows all petting for duration of this session. Doing well today. 10/04/17 Comes running to the front of the kennel as I approach and begins head-butting and leaning against the kennel door. Reaches out towards me with soft paws. Allows petting along his head and body while leaning and rubbing up against my hand and arms. Constantly rubbing against me, tail raised and pilo-erect. He nips my hand gently a few times during our session – does not break skin or glove. Has potential to become overstimulated, he has a lot of energy and gets excited quickly during interactions. Likes all toys and treats. 10/05/17 At front of kennel, leaning against kennel door and reaching out towards me with soft paws. He allows petting along his head and body, rubbing and leaning against my arms constantly. Leans in and raises tail, which becomes pilo-erect at the base. After a few minutes of energetic petting, he turns to nip my arm with medium pressure. Does not break skin. Friendly with lots of energy – gets overstimulated. 10/09/17 At front of kennel as I approach, reaching out towards me with soft paws and vocalizing. He remains in the front of the kennel and allows petting along his head and body while leaning in with enthusiasm. Paces back and forth to head-butt my hands and arms with tail raised. Fur becomes pilo-erect along base of tail. Has potential to become overstimulated. Nips sometimes, but not during todays interaction. Allowed all petting today and ate all treats. Doing well! Likes puzzle feeders. Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Perlito was relaxed and comes forward immediately to greet the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Perlito purrs and rubs up against the kennel door. Reaction to cage door opening: Perlito is calm and relaxed Reaction to touch: Perlito chirps then gently nudges the assessor’s hand and accepts petting/attention. His tail pilo erects after a few soft pets and he occasionally nips (slight pressure) but doesn’t display any further reaction. Reaction to being picked up: Perlito is calm, relaxed and allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social Sweet Affectionate Easy going POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation Potential challenges comments: Perlito is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Perlito becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experienced, adult only Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Perlito solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly. Due to Perlito showing signs of over stimulation, we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home.
10/10/17 Behavior: Adult Only
