Reaction when softly spoken to:
Pepsi focuses on the assessor, alert.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Pepsi retreats to the back and lowers her body.
Reaction to touch:
Pepsi shifts away from touch, but allows gentle petting and flinches. She keeps a low body posture and her ears tilt sideways, but she doesn’t display any further reaction.
Reaction to being picked up:
Pepsi becomes tense and struggles to be placed back down.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Lively
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Curious
Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Kitten socialization
Potential challenges comments:
Pepsi is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes she has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Pepsi tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
6/15/18
Playing with littermate in kennel – tense when I approach, leans away from handling. Once restrained, allows exam.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
6/12/18
Curled up with sibling in litter box, became alert when door opened. Â Lay in place, tense posture, but seemed lethargic, eyes crusted shut. Â Shifted back to avoid touch, briefly squirmed when picked up, then settled in place. Â Initially tended to flinch when touched on head, then allowed all pets, curled up in my lap, appeared to doze off. Â Ate offered treats when returned to cage, started to explore.
Resting with eyes closed, flinches when touched, stiffens with no interest towards the interaction.
06/14/18
Sitting upright, calm and relaxed. Retreats to the back when door opens, and then curls up next to sibling. Keeps a low body posture and flinches when pet; ears tilt to the side and body is tense, very uncomfortable. Perks up with treats, so rewarded with treats each time petting was allowed. Will keep sniffing around in kennel, looking for more. Recommend using treats to socialize.
6/17/18
Curled up asleep with sibling. Woke and became alert when door opened, tense posture, body held low. Retreated to avoid touch, very squirmy when picked up. Held immobile when swaddled, ears sideways, tolerated pets. Retreated slowly when returned to cage, lifted rear for butt scratches. Ate offered treats after door closed.
6/19/18
At the front on approach, looking around, alert. Retreated slowly when door opened, started hissing. Fled around cage to avoid touch, then held immobile when pet. Sat quietly when held.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Cola sits at the front of the cage, alert, looking around.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Cola looks up at the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Cola retreats slowly to the back of the cage.
Reaction to touch:
Cola hisses quietly and moves around to avoid touch.
Reaction to being picked up:
Cola calms slightly and sits quietly in the assessor’s arms.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Moderate
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Shy
Timid
Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Cola has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Cola tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children.
