Hello, my name is Pepper. My animal id is #9341. I am a female tortoiseshell cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 1 months 3 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – aggressive towards people.
Pepper 9341 is at risk for behavior challenges, including a bite and scratch history in her previous home. She was initially very nervous and uncomfortable in the shelter, but over the course of her stay she has acclimated well and now enjoys petting and attention. We recommend an experienced home without young children based on her behavior, and she was released for rescue placement only after her bite/scratch quarantine. Please note she was reported to have diarrhea in the care center.

Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
