11/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
According to her previous owner, Penny is friendly and outgoing with strangers. Penny has lived with a three-year-old and was respectful and played gently with the child; with adults, Penny was “gentle and exuberant.” He has lived with two other cats, both littermates, and engaged in exuberant play with them. Penny has lived with an eight-year-old Maltese, and was relaxed with and respectful to the dog. The previous owner stated that Penny used a hooded litter box appropriately and was kept mostly indoors. Described as “friendly and quiet,” Penny had a medium activity level in the home of the previous owner. During intake, Penny was receptive to all handling, but during his initial medical exam he hissed, growled, attempted to swat, and was otherwise difficult to handle by staff. Reaction to assessor: Penny was curled up on her blanket, eyes wide, but did not look up, ignored the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Penny remained curled up on her blanket, eyes wide, alert but motionless, did not look up. Reaction when cage door opened: Penny remained curled up on blanket, lifted head and watched the assessor with wide eyes. Reaction to touch: Penny remained curled up on blanket and assessor was briefly able to touch head and body, but her body tensed, shifted weight to rear, and hissed. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Penny tolerates some attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
