***SAFE 08/07/17***WATCH HER VIDEO! RETURN!! SWEET PENNE IS NOW MACC’S LONGEST STAY CAT – OVER A MONTH AT THE SHELTER!! A volunteer writes: Penne is the queen of the castle at the shelter. This stunning girl, with her iridescent sea-green eyes and soft tabby fur, sits confidently at the front of her condo curiously watching the world buzz around her. This spunky and elegant lady loves head rubs and attention and is waiting for her new forever friend to come along and offer her a safe place to call home. If you are looking for a beautiful and friendly companion, please visit Penne at Manhattan Animal Care Center.
Penne is a bold and sassy young girl who has found herself at the care center for several weeks. She’s got lots of personality to share and is ready for someone to finally see her for the sweetheart she is, it’s hard being an adult cat during kitten season!
Poor PENNE was adopted from the ACC a few years ago. Sadly she was surrendered back because her owners are “they are moving to Africa and don’t plan to take her with them”. I guess PENNE wasn’t special enough to be included in their plans. Penne is frightened and needs a quiet and loving home to help get over this stressful situation.

06/30/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/30/17 20:25 Basic Information: Penne is a 5yr old spayed cat who was gotten from ACC. Unfortunately the owner is leaving to another country for a few months and will not be able to care for her. No records of the last time she was brought to the vet. Socialization: Around strangers and children Penne is known to be friendly, relaxed and respectful and plays gentle with both children and adults. She has never been sozialized with other cats or dogs and no record of her ever bitting another animal or person. Behavior: Penne will meow when she is hungry, will attempt to escape the house when she sees the door open but will just go to the hallway then come back, will scratch up furniture and has litter box accidents when her litter is dirty. During the car ride she will meow and cry the whole way, is not a fan of bath time or having her nails trimmened and will attempt to swat. However she does enjoy being picked up, being brushed, put in a carrier and okay with being disturbed while asleep. For a New Family to Know: Penne is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, independent and quiet. She has a medium activity level, loves to play with catnip toys and strings, will follow you around and be in the same room as you when youre home and has been kept indoors only. She can sleep anywhere, eats Meow Mix wet and dry food mixed at least 3-4x a day and is considered litter box trained. She prefers an uncovered litter box with clumping litter and has no interests in scratching posts. Upon intake, Penne allowed minimal handling and being collared. She then began to his and swat at counselor. Struggled to go into the crate.

08/02/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Curious KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults and children Behavior toward strangers: Friendly, relaxed, and respectful Behavior toward children: Friendly, relaxed, and respectful Behavior toward cats or dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: History of nipping and scratching Litter box training: Yes, but has accidents when her litter box is dirty Other notes: Penne will meow when she is hungry, will attempt to escape the house when she sees the door open but will just go to the hallway then come back. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/30/17- Observed Behavior – allows petting, but further restraint patient started growling ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/27/17 Very interested in tuna puree. She immediately came forward and reached out to get more. Clicker trained to give high fives and she picked it up pretty quickly. She will sometimes get really excited and use her nails to cling onto my hand as I’m offering her the treat, but is overall gentle when giving high fives. Did really well! EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Penne remains neutral, sitting upright by the front during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Penne solicits attention, alert with soft eyes, and soft body with tail up. Reaction to touch: Penne head bunts the assessor’s hand and purrs, but after a few strokes she becomes agitated and paws while randomly hissing. After the interaction has stopped she then continues to seek attention. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Penne is social and affectionate, but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Penne becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
