07/09/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Penelope was brought in without information on her behavior in her previous home. She allowed all handling during intake, but attempted to flee once out of her carrier. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Growling but no striking EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Penelope was lying down by the back, neutral. Reaction when softly spoken to: Penelope slowly gets up and backs away, looking at the assessor with dilated eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Penelope presses against the back wall and lip licks. Reaction to touch: Penelope looks around, but slowly leans forward to sniff the assessor’s hand. She was hesitant of touch and leans away, but allows gentle petting on her head. She remains tense and looks very uncomfortable during the interaction, growling softly. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult only home – Penelope tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
