*** SAFE 05/24/17 *** ** FOLLOW UP VET CARE NEEDED ** Peirce appears to have an injury to his right hind leg and will need follow up medical care for this. He has be uncomfortable with medical handling during his stay at the Brooklyn Care Center, though much of this could be due to his injury. During enrichment sessions this young cutie has begun opening up and even leaned in for some attention, sniffing around, and cheek rubs yesterday! Peirce would be happiest in an experienced, adult-only home where he can adjust and warm up at his own pace.
Brooklyn Center

05/16/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Pierce is at-risk for medical and behavior reasons; he displayed fearful behaviors when first brought in, but tolerated gentle petting and kept a low body posture. He slowly started warming up to attention, but still appeared hesitant (medical condition may be affecting his tolerance for attention). He was actually open to affection today and was head-butting during the interaction. Please see medical exam notes below

05/12/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Peirce was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Growling, hissing, very tense and striking out. Will not allow handling awake. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 05/10/17 Sleeping in litterbox when I approach. Shoots head up when touched and begins to stress meow. Tolerates being pet while lowering body and flattening ears, eyes wide. Begins to growl. Needs more time to adjust. 05/11/17 Lying relaxed in cardboard bed. Looks around the room as I approach and tolerates petting along head with wide eyes, becoming tense when pet along body. Turns head around to watch my hand pass along back. May be uncomfortable due to medical condition. 05/12/17 Lying down in his litter box, facing the back wall of the kennel. Turns and makes eye contact when spoken to softly. Ears rotate, alert and attentive. Leans head forward, curious, sniffs around. Remains calm when the door opens and allowed gentle pets on his head. Leans in for attention and seems to enjoys cheek rubs. Doesn’t really move much, possibly due to injury. A little uncomfortable when touched along back, watches hand & starts lip licking. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Peirce tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
