11/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Peewee’s previous owner reports she is friendly around strangers. She plays in a gentle manner with adults and was playful and affectionate with the small dog she lived with. She isn’t bothered if brushed, picked up, when placed in a carrier, or if disturbed while sleeping. She was described as friendly, affectionate, and mellow with a medium activity level. The owner says she likes to catch insects and tends to follow them around at home. Reaction to assessor: Peewee was growling loudly upon approach, hissing when she sees movement around her. Reaction when softly spoken to: Peewee focuses on the assessor and continues to growl. Reaction to cage door opening: Peewee becomes stiff and alert, focusing on the opening. Reaction to touch: Peewee hisses and begins to yowl as the assessor extends their hand. She focuses on the hand and does not allow touch; she hisses, yowls, and strike when petting was attempted. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Peewee is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
