Peeps A1066010- 12 weeks old, Neutered, Domestic Short Hair, Black and White, Stray, 2.5 pounds
slightly dirty ears – em negative
clean coat – flea negative
good appetite seen for soft food
overall body condition is good
tense and nervous during exam but able to handle
Peeps was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was tense upon intake, retreating to the back of the carrier when approached. He was tolerant of petting, but would attempt to flee once outside the carrier. He was tense and nervous during his initial medical exam, but he allowed all handling. The enrichment facilitator has reported he seemed wary of the environment and is hesitant, but he allows petting and handling. He calms down and starts to purr when petted.
Reaction to Assessor: Peeps was calm and relaxed by the front.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Peeps crouches over and stress meows.
Reaction to cage door opening: Peeps becomes stiff and alert. If given the chance, he will attempt to flee from the cage.
Reaction to touch: Peeps was hesitant, but he allows petting with a slow approach. He meows softly and will slowly warm up to the assessor, purring in place.
Reaction to being picked up: Peeps is tense during pick up, but remains calm when held.
Placement Determination: Experience
Peeps tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
