I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 04-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.

Pear is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Pear, whom we believe would be suitable even for a beginner cat home.

Surgery Report: Feline Spay Was this cat in heat, pregnant or have a pyometra? in heat Ventral Midline Incision Ovaries autoligated Uterine Body Ligated with: 3-0 PDS, one modified miller’s knot and one encircling ligation Abdominal Closure:3 layer closure, 3-0 PS, simple continuous Green Linear Tattoo Placed on Midline Surgeon:1382 Additional Comments: hypotension noted at the beginning of the procedure which responded to a 50 ml fluid bolus and a decrease in isoflurane; recovery was smooth and uneventful
Post-op spay recheck: S/O QARH – e/d ok, no c/s observed – incision clean, dry, intact, no swelling/discharge A: spay incision healing well at this time P: cont post-op care
S/O -QAR, docile, allows all handling -no appetite -mm pk, tacky; CRT <2 sec -sneezing, mild to moderate nasal congestion -eupnic A 1. URI P move to isolation doxycycline 0.6 ml PO SID x 10 days cerenia 0.3 ml SQ SID x 2 days LRS 100 ml SQ SID x 2 days nebulize SID x 4 days
Anesthesia Summary: Feline OHE Pre Medication/Induction: Ketamine 100mg/mL injectable, 0.2 mL IM, once Butorphanol 10mg/mL injectable, 0.2 mL, IM once Midazolam 0.1 ml injectable IM once Anesthesia Notes: Size 3.0 fr. ET tube placed, maintained general anesthesia throughout procedure on variable Isoflurane and variable L/min O2. Used (non-rebreathing) system with 0.5 L bag. 24g IVC placed in LF cephalic vessel. Intraoperative LRS run at 14 mL/hr. NSAID: Robenicoxib (Onsior) 20mg/mL injectable, 0.3 mL, SQ, once, for post operative pain relief. Given post operatively. Simbadol 1.8mg/mL injectable, 0.35 mL SQ, once, for post operative pain relief, given post operatively. Low blood pressure at start of sx. P: fliud rate highered with a blous rate of 100 ml/hr for 15 mins. temp decline during sx, P will temp after sx. More heat support will be provided. Recovery Status: Uneventful Anesthesiologist/Surgical Monitor: 0811/Markeya Start 0.35 cc simbadol 1.8 mg/ml sid x 3 days and 0.3 cc Robenacoxib 20 mg/ml sid x 3 days as pain management.

Behavior Condition: 1. Green
upon intake, pear had dilated pupils stiff body. She allowed counselor to pet her but when trying to take her out of carrier. She hissed, swatted and retreated to the back. no more handling was done. counselor did not collar. She allowed scanning.

For a New Family to Know: Owner has never tried giving a bath, trimming of nails, picking up and holding. She struggles when being placed in carrier like using her back claws to escape. She is described as fearful and quiet. She plays with mice and balls with sound. She eats friskies and likes tuna. She uses a uncovered litterbox with clumping litter. she uses a scratching post made out of carpet and wood.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -calm
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/5/17 Sitting up behind litter box, tense, eyes dilated, whiskers forward. Sat in place when door opened, leaned forward to sniff assess-a-hand when offered treats, whined quietly. Slowly started to lean into pets, occasional lip licking and anxious-meowing. Warmed up enough to eat a few treats. Came slowly out to main compartment after door closed, explored cage, sniffed hand between bars, still occasionally anxious-meowing. Sprayed thunderease. 12/6/17 Resting behind litter box, eyes dilated, whiskers forward. Sat in place when door opened, leans into pets, but remained tense, wouldn’t come forward. Ate treats after door closed. Sprayed thunderease.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Pear seeks affection, leans forward with tail up and remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Pear remains soft in place.
Reaction to touch:: Pear head-butts the assessor’s hand and accepts the touch with eyes soft and loose body.
Reaction to being picked up:: Allows the pickup and remains calm.
