*** SAFE 09/08/16 *** PEACHY IS JUST THAT!! This young man (two years old & NEUTERED) lived with small children from 2-7 and was a solo cat. So why was he dumped at the shelter…..Because he scratched furniture and would lay on counter tops…..Surely in this day and age, there are videos, books, cat behaviorists that a person could consult to curb unwanted behavior ….but that’s not what PEACHY’S owners did. Much easier to just surrender him at the local high kill shelter and problem solved for them……
PEACHY IS A GREAT CAT THAT JUST NEEDS SOME ALTERNATIVE SCRATCHING IDEAS…..So hard to believe that someone would leave a cat to possibly be killed because of this issue…..IF YOU CAN PROVIDE AN INTELLIGENT, CAT FRIENDLY HOME FOR PEACHY, NOW’S THE TIME TO APPLY!! Please note that while PEACHY is ear tipped, he is not feral……PEACHY is publicly adoptable or can be fostered or adopter through a rescue. If you need assistance, email us at [email protected]

09/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Peachy is friendly and outgoing with strangers and plays gently with adults. He’s spent time with children from ages 2 to 7 and was respectful of them. His owners report that Peachy scratches on the furniture, chairs and sofas in the home. He’s never had litter box issues and will struggle when picked up or placed in a carrier. Peachy is described as being friendly with a medium activity level. He likes playing with balls or stuffed toys. Reaction to assessor: Peachy stress meows with her head lowered at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Peachy hisses and slowly turns his head away. Reaction to cage door opening: Peachy remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Peachy hisses when you extend your hand out and tolerates petting with a slow approach. He whips around quickly when touched on his back and seems unsure of contact. After a few minutes of being pet he slowly builds confidence and inches forward. He keeps his body and tail lowered and looks around wary of his surroundings. At the front he lightly head butts the assessor, warms up when touched on his back and appreciates attention. Peachy is reported to have a history of scratching at furniture, and should go to a home that can safely cat-proof chairs and sofas in the home. We advise future adopters to make sure to provide mentally and physically stimulating toys to keep Peachy occupied when left alone. Behavior Determination: Experience Peachy may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
