For a New Family to KnowPattie was kept as an indoor only cat. She used to stay under the bed while her owner was home. Her favorite thing to do was sit next to her owner while she was knitting and chase mouse toys. She also liked to play with wand toys. She slept under her owners bed, or on the bed. She ate wet food twice a day, and was free fed dry food. She was on a strict schedule and eats once in the morning and once again at 4PM. She used a hooded litter box with clumping litter. She does not scratch on anything because her front paws are declawed.
Behavior Notes:Upon intake, Pattie was slow blinking but hissed when I opened her carrier. She allowed another counselor to go over her head to scan her for a microchip. I did not try to collar her or take a photo. In her kennel, she stayed near the back.

She appears to appreciate gentle attention with a slow approach, but also seems wary of her surroundings.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:

VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Shy
Timid
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Pattie has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Pattie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent and will need time to warm up to her new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
