Paola’s previous owner reports she is friendly and social towards strangers, allowing them to pick her up and pet her. She also allows strangers to carry her. Paola has resided with small children and is tolerant of child play. She plays gently with both children and adults. She has also lived with two other cats and dogs. She got along well with all of them, but enjoyed playing with the cats and was tolerant of their presence. The owner says she enjoys running water; she will stick her paws and head into the sink. She was described as a friendly, affectionate, and loving cat. She enjoys sun bathing, playing with toys, and will follow the owner around at home. Reaction to assessor: Paola was hiding under her blanket, but her head faces the opening and she looks at the assessor with almond-shaped eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Paola’s eyes dilated slightly, but they soften after and she blinks slowly. Reaction to cage door opening: Paola becomes stiff and alert, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Paola attempts to shift away from the assessor’s hand and hisses once. She allows gentle petting, but continues to hide and attempts to make herself smaller by curling up even more. She remains tense throughout the interaction and lip licks. Behavior Determination: Experienced Paola tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents who will allow her time to adjust to her new surroundings. Due to her stress levels in the care center, we recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
