Hello, my name is Pantai. My animal id is #14148. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 6 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 20-Nov-2017.
Pantai is at risk for medical concerns. Pantai is FELV positive and has Upper Respiratory Infection, whic is contagious to other cats. Pantai also has a ruptured corneal ulcer. Behaviorally, he appears a bit timid in the care center, but he allows all petting and handling. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

Hx: community cat who reportedly got into a fight with another cat and sustained injuries to R eye S/O -QDR, lethargic, docile, allows all handling -mm lgt/pale pk, tacky -nares moist, no active nasal discharge -OD: mild buphthalmia; cornea appears dry and dull with significant changes that appear somewhat chronic; area in center that was likely previous rupture but appears sealed over at this time -OS: mild blepharospasm, mild epiphora -bradycardic (HR 100 bpm), eupnic -soft abdomen -reluctant to stand but ambulatory x 4 A Corneal disease, bupthalmia OD Mild URI Felv Anemia, suspected Bradycardia Felv P simbadol 0.3 ml SQ SID x 4 days LRS 150 ml SQ SID x 4 days cerenia 0.3 ml SQ SID x 3 days d/c erythromycin, change to ofloxacin eye ointment corneal changes/trauma to the right eye appear to be more likely related to uncontrolled conjunctivitis that lead to chronic corneal changes and previous globe rupture rather than trauma from another animal; furthermore, changes in the eye appear more chronic (10-14 days) and do not fit the timeline reported by finder

S/O -QAR, shy but appears more comfortable than previous exam by 1382 -good appetite -no nasal discharge or sneezing -OD: cornea appears dull/dry with previous rupture wound in center that has healed over; significantly less discharge than previously, appears much more comfortable, buphthalmia improved but still present -eupnic -soft abdomen A Felv Globe rupture, corneal changes P extend simbadol until placement recommend enucleation OD after placement as best curative option

Behavior Condition: 1. Green
Pantai allowed to be picked up but held on to the carrier. He allowed to be pet and handled but hung on the kennel door before being placed in another carrier. While Pantai was in the kennel he had a low body, but allowed to be collared, stayed in the back of the kennel and attempted to hide when being removed.
Basic Information:: Pantai is a domestic short haired cat that is estimated to be around two years old. Pantai has a black and white coat and was a neighborhood cat that was brought in as a stray.
How is this cat around strangers?: Pantai is friendly towards adult strangers, is allowed to be picked up, pet and fed.
How is this cat around children?: Unknown
How is this cat around other cats?: Pantai is friendly towards cat’s in the neighborhood.
How is this cat around dogs?: Unknown
Behavior Notes: According to the lady that feed the local cats in her backyard, she described Pantai as a friendly, respectful and relaxed cat.
Bite history:: Pantai was scratched by another neighborhood cat on 11/20/2017, the scratch did draw blood.

Medical Notes: Pantai came in with an injury to his right eye and has not been seen by a vet.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Pantai was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. His finder reports he is a neighborhood cat and is friendly towards adult strangers, allowing them to pet him and pick him up. He also appeared friendly towards the cats in the neighborhood. He allowed handling during intake, but was a bit tense.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -calm
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/21/17 Crouched behind litter box, a little wary, seems really rundown and lethargic. Lay in place when door opened, allowed pets, but lowered head and hid face behind litter box. 11/22/17 Curled up in litter box, seems really rundown. Lay in place when door opened. Allowed pets, but curled up tighter, hid face.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Pantai was lying in his litter box, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Pantai looks at the assessor before lowering his gaze, his ears tilting slightly to the side.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Pantai remains motionless and looks around.
Reaction to touch:: Pantai accepts petting, but his ears are still tilted. he doesn’t seem to mind attention and remains in place throughout the interaction.
Reaction to being picked up:: Pantai is a bit tense during pick up, but remains calm when held.
