Hello, my name is Panera. My animal id is #21512. I am a desexed female black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 3 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 24-Feb-2018.
ZIP Code From: 10472
Panera is at risk for behavior reasons. Panera is very nervous at the care Center. Upon approach she will tolerate a quick petting, but remains tense, and then she begins to hiss and move away from contact. Medically, we have concerns for Panera, who presents as a healthy cat.
My medical notes are…

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 5. Red
KNOWN HISTORY:: Panera was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/24/18 Subjective: started off friendly, able to pet and handle, but quickly became fractious
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Came over from other kennel when spoken to, soft posture, eyes a little dilated. Leaned and arched into pets, tail danced. Briefly became overstimulated, batted hand away without claws, but calmed quickly and resumed soliciting attention and cheek-rubbing cage furnishings.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Panera remains neutral, lying down facing forward on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Panera seemed interested with soft eyes, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Panera remains immobile in place.
Reaction to touch:: Panera at first stands upright and allowed a quick pass along the head and body. She then increased distance and began to hiss at the assessor’s hand, avoiding contact.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Panera may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
