***SAFE 06/07/16*** TABBY YOUNGSTER, OVHIR, WAS FOUND WANDERING IN A BUILDING….Did the finder take steps to locate the owner or did they just bring him to the ACC….We don’t know. We do know that OVHIR is listed with 30 other cats tonight and will be fighting for his life!! OVHIR is a friendly guy but may need some one who can understand his overstimulation which may also be fear at the ACC. If your CAT WHISPERING skills are up to par, YOU can be the one to save his life!! OVHIR is just over a year old, barely out of kittenhood…..DON’T LET HIM BECOME A STATISTIC TOMORROW AT NOON!! 05/23/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/23/16 19:29 Finder found him in her build and decided to bring the cat to MACC. Ovhir had a tense body but allowed me to scan (-) him. Ohvir started to swat and hiss when trying to collar, so we was unable to collar her. We use the thick gloves to get him a crate. He was swatting and bitting the glove at the same time.
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Striking and so interested in what’s going on around him, that’s our Ovhir. He did come to us as a stray, and is probably very stressed by the shelter environment. I see a real sweetheart there, who just needs a parent or parents who can understand when a boy might need his space. He was looking at me and meowing a little because he definitely wanted to say hello. We had a very nice chat, and if he got a little frustrated with his situation, all I needed to do was walk away for a minute or two and come back. At just a year old, he is still pretty much a big kitten, and I really believe it is only a matter of time until that really sweet side is able to come out and take over. Come and see if you agree!
05/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Ovhir looks neutral in the cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Ovhir remains sitting upright by the front of the cage, relaxed body posture, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Ovhir leans into the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body. However, after few strokes he becomes agitated with the touch and began to quickly nip and swats down the hand to stop the interaction. Placement determination: Experience / no child Initially Ovhir solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body he begins to nip and swats down the assessor hand. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Ovhir becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
