I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 02/04/2017 from NY 10301, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. I came in with Group/Litter #K17-087752.

02/04/17 13:29 Finder did not have any interaction with animal as it was brought to our facility in a trap. Behavior during intake: Otter had a tense body and kept moving from side to side in the trap. I was able to transfer from trap to den without any issues. Once in the den, animal went to the back and started to lip lick. Counselor was unable to scan for a mc, collar or open den door to get a picture as animal kept trying to flee.

Upon intake, Otter was nervous and avoided handling. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage was recently cleaned. Reaction to assessor: Otter is hiding in his den. Reaction when softly spoken to: Otter continues to hide. Reaction to cage door opening: Otter appears tense, nervous. Reaction to touch: Otter moves away to avoid touch and attempts to flee the cage. Reaction to being picked up: Not attempted MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very nervous, attempted to flee, limited exam ACTIVITY LEVEL: Nervous VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Skittish, Not Socialized RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Placement with a New Hope partner POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful Behavior observations _x_ New Hope Only Otter is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
