***SAFE 07/18/17*** SWEET, FRIENDLY, PLAYFUL & AFFECTIONATE ORIO WANTS TO BE YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND! Owner dumped poor Orio at the shelter for litterbox issues which sound like something which was not the cat’s fault. Owner said he has too many cats – maybe there were just not enough boxes or no “clean” boxes for poor Orio to use. Now Orio needs a home asap. He is a gorgeous house panther. ORIO MUST BE RESERVED BY NOON!!

06/27/17 13:06 Basic Information Orio, a two year old, black, medium sized cat was surrendered by owner. Owner can’t keep her anymore because he regularly urinates all over her apartment even with a litter box present. Owner stated Orio was a gift from her cousin and that she had him for two years. Orio has no visible signs of illness or injuries. Socialization Orio is friendly and outgoing around strangers. He lived with children ages 5 to 16 and is relaxed and respectful around them. He is gentle when playing with children and adults. Orio lived at home with kittens and is relaxed and respectful around them. Orio has never bitten a person or another animal. Behavior According to owner, Orio regularly has litter box accidents. He urinates outside his litter box and has been doing that for about one year and never saw a vet for this problem. He is relaxed and sleeps when riding in a car. He struggles when you give a bath but enjoys being brushed, picked up or held. For a New Family to Know Owner described Orio as a very sweet, friendly, affectionate and playful cat with a low activity level. That he likes to lie around and cuddle all day. He’s been kept mostly indoors and follows you around at home. Orio sleeps on the bed with the children; was fed both dry (meow mix) and wet (Friskies) 3 times daily. Orio is litter box trained and uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Orio had no scratch post but scratched on furniture. Behavior during Intake Orio had a very relaxed body (cuddled up in owners arms upon arrival), and allowed to be collard, photographed and put in a kennel.

EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Orio was lying down and relaxed at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Orio slowly comes forward with his tail lowered and sniffs the assessor. He leans in then gently rubs his cheeks against the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Orio lip licks then slowly backs up. Reaction to touch: Orio seems a little hesitant and lowers his body when the assessor extends his hand out. He warms up to touch, perks up and leans in for petting and attention. His tail quivers when pet and he gives soft head butts when rubbed on his head. Reaction to being picked up: Orio was a bit tense when picked up but allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Inappropriate elimination – Orio’s previous owners report that he was eliminating (urinating) outside the litter box for about a year. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Orio interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. However due to Orio having litter box issues, we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
