ENRICHMENT NOTES:
03/28/18
Lying in back of kennel, body flat and tense. Avoids eye contact when spoken to and flattens ears. Pupils are dilated and tail is curled around feet. Very nervous and uncomfortable. Whips head back and whines when touched with the scratcher. Needs more time to adjust.
03/29/18
Lying beneath kuranda bed, body flat and tense. Head is lowered onto kennel floor. He raises his head as I lift his towel and begins to whine, ears flattening as he focuses on me. Tolerates petting along head and body with the bear-claw while whipping head back, vocalizations becoming louder. When I focus the petting along just his head and cheeks he closes his eyes and begins to lean in gently. Nervous and unsure, needs some time to adjust. May have potential to adjust.
03/30/18
Alert and watches the assessor with wide eyes from behind the kuranda bed. Lip licks and slowly turns his head away when spoken to softly. Eyes widen and he leans away when I extend my hand out. He flinches slightly when touched, low growls and turns his head, following my hand when pet along his body. His body feels tense, but he slowly starts to lean in, allowing petting and rubs on his cheeks. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Oreo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Oreo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
