I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 06/24/2017 from NY 10306, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

06/24/17 12:07 Finder was able to approach kitten, pick her up and put her into a carrier to bring to SIACC Behavior during intake: Opi was hissing and swatting during intake. Counselor was able to transfer from carrier to den and take a picture but was unable to collar due to animal trying to flee, hissing and growling.

Upon intake, Opi was hissing and attempting to flee. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very nervous, hissing, attempted to flee, did not allow handling EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Opi is hiding in her den upon approach Reaction when softly spoken to: Opi looks at the assessor with wide eyes, ears flat Reaction to cage door opening: Opi retreats to the back of the den and hisses Reaction to touch: Opi swats at the assessor and vocalizes, avoids handling ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish, Timid, Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Kitten socialization RECOMMENDATIONS: – Placement with a New Hope partner Behavior observations _x_ New Hope Only Opi is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
