08/04/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Oma A1117417 is at risk for concerns that she is not thriving in the shelter environment. Oma has been in our care center just shy of a month and her behavior appears to be deteriorating. Although timid at first, Oma used to allow petting and solicit attention. She now only tolerates petting briefly before becoming tense and swatting. She reaches out through the kennel door with claws extended. We do not believe that Oma can continue to thrive in a shelter environment and it is in her best interest to move into a stable home environment as quickly as possible.

07/07/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Oma was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Fearful but allows handling. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Oma curled up tight and lowered her head when the assessor pulled up the cage cover. Reaction when softly spoken to: Oma lip licks and tries to avoid eye contact. Reaction to cage door opening: Oma is alert and focused on the assessor. Reaction to touch: Oma shifts away and dodges the assessor’s hand when trying to interact with her. She slinks down, her ears bend flat and she has a tense body when touched on her head. Her body slowly rises up and she seems to warm up with attention. After a few soft pets she leans in for rubs and gives soft head butts when pet on her head. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Oma has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents and any home with children should conduct a thorough interaction.
