Hello, my name is Oliver. My animal id is #11132. I am a desexed male white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 5 months 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 29-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
Oliver is at risk due to his stress level in the care center. He continues to remain timid and increase distance with interaction, lip licking. He does not appear to be thriving in the shelter environment. There are no know medical concerns for Oscar at this time.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: approx. 1y5m Microchip noted on Intake? History : O surrender Subjective: BARH, growling, hissing, but was able to handle minimally. Observed Behavior – Evidence of Cruelty seen – n Evidence of Trauma seen – n Objective T = P = wnl R = eup BCS = 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: limited oral exam due to behavior, no overt lesions seen PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT not assessed, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: intact male, 2 testicles MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: normal externally Assessment approx. 1y5m MI DMH apparently healthy Prognosis: good Plan: plan for neuter SURGERY: Okay for surgery

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
Upon intake, Oliver was meowing and would close his eyes when counselor extended hand to pet. Once outside the carrier, Oliver allowed to be collared and stood frozen in place. Oliver allowed to be pet and picked up and placed in cage.

Basic Information:: Oliver is a 1 1/2 year old gray and white male domestic medium haired cat. Oliver lived with previous owner since he was about a month old and was surrendered because owner was moving where pets were not allowed.
Previously lived with:: Oliver previously lived with two adults.
How is this cat around strangers?: Oliver is shy around strangers and will hide. After a few minutes Oliver will come out and approach strangers and will allow to be pet.
How is this cat around children?: Oliver has interacted with previous owner’s grandchildren aged 2 and 4. Oliver is relaxed and affectionate with both children and allows to be pet and picked up. Oliver will run away once he no longer wants attention or is bothered by something the children are doing.
How is this cat around other cats?: Oliver has not interacted with other cats and previous owner is unaware of how he would respond.
How is this cat around dogs?: Oliver has interacted with one small dog the previous owner would take care of once in a while. Oliver and the dog would sniff each other and then ignore each other the rest of the time.
Behavior Notes: During car rides, Olives meows and cries. Oliver was never given a bath or had his nails trimmed and previous owner is unaware of how he would reach. Oliver is afraid when his coat is brushed but is not bothered when being picked up and held, when being put in a carrier, or when disturbed as he sleeps.
Bite history:: Oliver has never tried to bite another animal or human.
Energy level/descriptors:: Oliver has a medium energy level.

For a New Family to Know: Oliver is an affectionate, mellow, shy and quiet cat. Oliver enjoys playing with toy mice and balls. Oliver is an indoors only cat that eats dry food twice a day. Oliver sleeps in his cat bed and is litter box trained. Oliver uses an uncovered litter box with Tidy Cats litter. Oliver uses a vertical scratching post made out of rope and carpet.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective:growling, hissing, but was able to handle minimally.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/30/17 Resting on bedding, eyes a little dilated, soft posture. Shifted back slightly when door opened, started lip licking. Hesitant at first, had to sniff hand, then allowed and leaned into pets, remained wary. Sprayed thunderease. 10/31/17 Moved up to adoptions. Resting on bedding in main compartment, eyes a little dilated, whiskers forward. Seemed wary. Lay in place when door opened, started lip licking. Leaned slowly into pets, but remained tense. Sprayed thunderease.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Oliver remains neutral, crouched down in his cage cubby.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Oliver remains immobile.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Oliver becomes alert with eyes wide open, ears erect and forward, lip licking in place.
Reaction to touch:: Oliver seems unsure at first, then slowly leans into the the assessor’s hand, but increases distance watching his surroundings.
Reaction to being picked up:: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
