07/08/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/30/17 13:22 Basic Information OJ is a 10 year old, Orange Tabby and white, medium sized cat. Owner stated that she has him for 10 years and was surrendered him because she can no longer keep him for medical (personal) reasons and because of OJ’s litter box issues. OJ’s last vet visit was in August 2016 for tooth removal and he has only two teeth left. Socialization OJ is friendly around strangers and would rub against your legs. He lived at home with a half month baby and a four year old child. He gentle when playing with children and somewhat exuberant when playing with adults. He has never bitten a human or another animal. Behavior According to owner, OJ has litter box accidents a few times per month. She has had this problem for up to two years and be due to her age. Owner stated that she tried additional litter box and comfort zone but there still was no improvement in his behavior. She stated that OJ isn’t bothered when she trims his nails or picks him up or puts him in carrier or disturb him while sleeping. For a New Family to know Owner described OJ as a mellow cat with a medium energy level. That he is good around people and does not hiss and loves to just lie around undisturbed. He rarely seeks attention at home and likes to play with balls and catnip toys. OJ was kept mostly indoors and sleeps in cat bed. He eats a can of wet cat food (Nature’s variety Instinct) daily. His favorite treats are table scraps. OJ is not litterbox trained and uses an uncovered litterbox with clumping litter. Behavior Upon Intake: OJ was willing once I opened the carrier on the top as scratched his ears. I then collared him and he was very willing to let me. Once I extended my hand to scratch his back side he opened his mouth and let out a little hiss. I lured him with food while on the table to take a picture, and after awhile he came out of the carrier. His back was arched and his tail was hooked, but as the pictures continued he started flick and quiver his tail.

07/11/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: adults Behavior toward strangers: friendly Behavior toward children: gentle when playing with children Litter box training: Yes, but previous owners reported that he was eliminating outside the litter box a few times per month. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. Other notes: described OJ as a mellow cat with a medium energy level MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/9/17- Observed Behavior – timid/nervous but allows handling; starts growling and flicking tail with added restraint EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: OJ remains neutral, lying down on his cage bedding during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: OJ stands with tail up while he engages with soft eyes and meowing attention. Reaction to touch: OJ head bunts the assessor’s hand, purrs in place, but becomes agitated during the touch then slowly leans away and swats (claws not exposed) while he meow whines. After a few seconds he softens up again, but the interaction was done already. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Initially OJ solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body he begins to swats (claws not exposed) and meow whines at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before OJ becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
