07/19/17 19:07 Basic Info Niko is a 5 year old DSH whose owners moved and could not take him with them. He has never been taken to a vet before. Socialization Niko is outgoing around strangers and walks around when they come over and rubs on their legs. He lives witha 9 year old with whom he is relaxed with and very playful. When he plays he is gentle. He has lived with a cat once before and he fought with this cat often and so he had to be in a single cat home. He has never been around other dogs before. He has never bitten a person or animal before. Behavior Niko does not scratch on furniture and has no litter box issues.When trying to give him a bath he will struggle and run. He is not bothered by being brushed and enjoys being held and picked up. He struggles a lot when being put into a carrier. New family While at home he has a high level of energy and likes to be around his owners and follows them around. He enjoys catnip toys and tape made into balls. He is kept solely indoors. He sleeps on the beds of his owners. He is fed dry food and is fed 6 small portions throughout the day. If fed large portions he will throw up. His litter box is hooded and he uses fresh step. He has a scratch post made of rough rope and has catnip inside. Intake Behavior Niko was urine soaked and ducks when being pet but allowed all handling for collaring, scanning and photograph.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: adults and a 9 year old Behavior toward strangers: outgoing Behavior toward children: relaxed with and very playful Behavior toward cats: he was offensive around the other cat until he lived in a single cat home Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: yes Energy level/descriptors: high level of energy MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/20/17- Observed Behavior – allows exam, tries to sneak away ENRICHMENT NOTES: 7/20/17- Crouched in litter box, eyes dilated, ears sideways, alert. Sniffed assess-a-hand, minor lip licking. Leaned into pets, but remained wary. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Niko remains tense, crouched position hiding in the cubby during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Niko remains immobile in place, alert with eyes wide open, lip licking in place. Reaction to touch: Niko distance increases, but stiffens up when touched then slowly warms up and began to knead while leaning into the assessor’s hand. Reaction to being picked up: Niko becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Niko interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
