For a New Family to Know: Cotton Ball is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and talkative with a medium activity level. He was kept indoors only, at night he slept in his late owners bed. He ate dry Purina. He is litter boxed trained and used an uncovered litter box and crystal litter. His care taker has never noticed him scratch on anything. Behavior during intake: Nick sniffed extended hand and allowed me to pet him while in his carrier. His body was low, his ears were back. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults and lived with 2 cats Behavior toward strangers: friendly and outgoing Behavior toward cats: relaxed and affectionate and when he played he was gentle Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: yes Other notes: friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and talkative with a medium activity level ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/31/17 He becomes alert when approached for interaction, but slowly leans forward to sniff my hand. He allows gentle petting all over, though his body twitches when touched. He lip licks and blinks, but will lean in for cheek and chin rubs. Moved him inside a room so he isn’t so exposed in the hallway. He perked up and looked around, curious of his new environment. He still keeps a low body posture and seems unsure, but has potential to warm up. Doesn’t seem to have a mean bone. Still in carrier since intake, half under bedding, eyes dilated. Lowered head and hid face when door opened. Held completely immobile when pet. 8/1/17 Out of carrier today, curled up in cubby behind litter box, dozing. Woke when door opened, lay in place, eyes only a little dilated. Allowed and started to lean into pets, extended neck for throat rubs. Occasionally lip licked throughout interaction. Eyes became less dilated, posture overall softened. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Nick remains tense, lying down on his cage bedding. Reaction to cage door opening: Nick body stiffens, alert with eyes wide open, lip licking in place.
