Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nevada was brought in without information on her behavioral tendencies in a home environment. She attempts to flee when given the chance and was very nervous and tense during her initial medical exam, trying to scratch and bite to resist handling. Reaction to assessor: Nevada becomes stiff and alert when approached. Reaction when softly spoken to: Nevada focuses on the assessor and starts to breathe rapidly. Reaction to cage door opening: Nevada remains motionless, but appears tense. Reaction to touch: Nevada was hesitant of touch, but sniffs the assessor’s hand. She lowers her body and allows touch, but tries to hide and looks for a way to escape. She squeezes into the corner of the kennel and is shaking, very uncomfortable. After a moment, she swats the assessor’s hand and lip licks. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Nevada is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
