Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Neo’s previous owner states he hides when strangers visit the home. He allows the owner to trim his nails and was reported to use his litter box daily. He was described as friendly, affectionate, and playful. He allowed all handling during intake and during his initial medical exam, but he became alert and growled when approached. Reaction to assessor: Neo becomes alert and hisses, stress meowing and looks around. Reaction when softly spoken to: Neo continues to meow and sniffs around. Reaction to cage door opening: Neo becomes tense and hisses. Reaction to touch: Neo hisses and does not allow touch; he strikes the assessor’s hand and backs away while growling. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Neo is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, scratch, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
