Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Nemo was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. She was tense during intake, but allowed some handling.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Allows all handling but will try to flee
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/28/17 Lying in litterbox with a low body, tail wrapped around her. Pupils are dilated. She tolerates petting initially, turning her head to smell my hand, then begins to lean in gently when pet along the head. She turns her head back to head-butt me and rolls over onto her side. Allows all petting for remainder of session while rolling in her litterbox and scent marking the sides, tail tucked between legs. Timid and unsure, begins to warm up once approached. Doing better today!
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Nemo had a low body posture upon approach and look at the assessor, alert.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Nemo lowers her head down and places it on her paws to rest. Her ears are tilted sideways.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Nemo becomes stiff and alert, and then hisses.
Reaction to touch:: Nemo is very tense, but lies flat against her bedding and accepts petting with a slow approach. Her ears tilt sideways, she blinks and lip licks, but she tolerates petting all over. Her body twitches when pet along her body, uncomfortable, but she doesn’t vocalize or display any other reaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Nemo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and appears uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Nemo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
