Basic Information:
Napoleon is a 10 year old, neutered, DMH, adopted from ACC, with no known medical issues. He was returned since one of the children in the home is allergic to the cat and the child’s asthma was flaring.
Socialization:
Napoleon has lived in the adopter’s house for 4 months and remains neutral when visitors come into the home, does not play with adults much, and is relaxed/affectionate with children aged 5 and 17 years old. Napoleon is fearful of large dogs and has also lived with a 3 month old male kitten, that he hisses at; Napolean does not appear to like playing with other cats.
Behavior:
Napoleon is described as a having a low activity level, is mellow and quiet cat that does not play much. He tends to stay in his favorite spot in the home. The former adopters have reported him to be laid back and suggests he be the only pet in the home. Per the previous adopter, Napoleon is afraid to be placed in a carrier but is not bothered when you: trim his nails, when you pick him up and when you wake him up from sleeping.
For a New Family to Know:
Per the previous adopter, Napoleon enjoys being pet and likes sleeping on the bed. He was free fed Nutrish and likes Friskies treats. Napoleon is said to have eliminated out of the litter box due to fear (he seemed to be afraid of the dog in the home). He used clump and seal litter, uncovered. He used a horizontal cardboard scratching post with catnip.
Behavior during intake: Napoleon seemed nervous in the carrier, tense and low body, but allowed all handling.
JULY 2016
Napoleon came to the shelter surrendered by an owner who described him as affectionate and playful and notes that he socialized well with children and other dogs in the home.
Reaction to assessor: Napoleon is sitting mid-cage, relaxed, looks at assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Napoleon slowly approaches the front of the cage.
Reaction to cage door opening: Napoleon takes a step back.
Reaction to touch: Napoleon softly head-butts and enjoys petting all over body.
Reaction to pick up: Napoleon is tolerant of this type of handling, but tense.
Placement Determination: Beginner
Napoleon approaches the assessor, appreciates petting and allows all handling. Napoleon is exhibiting behavior suited to beginning cat parents.
