It’s marvelous Myrtle, 16 pounds of furry orangey highlights; a gentle sniffer and people lover who bows her head as soon as anyone comes over to her, ready to score pettings and ear scratchings. Myrtle impressed our behavior staff with her excellent manners and gentle demeanor, acing her behavior test thanks to her penchant for head-butting and purring when she receives affection. She’d be a great fit in just about any home, and her BFF potential is off the charts. If you’re looking for a very sweet girl who will shower you with attention and make you feel like a million bucks, you must meet Miss Myrtle today!
**MYRTLE (previously named Cowboy and Cuphead) is a beautiful kitty that needs an experienced foster or adopter. She is scared and needs a calm environment to allow her the time to decompress.

KNOWN HISTORY:
Myrtle was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. She was initially receptive to handling during intake, but she hissed at the admissions counselor and attempted to swat with further handling.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Observed Behavior – striking, hissing, growling

Myrtle was lying down, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Myrtle looks at the assessor with soft eyes and remains in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Myrtle remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:
Myrtle sniffs the assessor’s hand and head-butts lightly. She leans in hard for cheek rubs and begins to purr, arching her back when pet along her body.
Reaction to being picked up:
Myrtle shifts away to avoid this type of handling. She is a little tubby, so she may not like this type of handling.

Myrtle did not appear to like being picked up during their behavior evaluation. Please keep in mind there are many reasons why a cat may be uncomfortable with this type of handling and that this may not necessarily translate into a home environment. We recommend any future home with children be counseled in respecting the cat’s space and for the family to use care when picking her up, especially while she is still adjusting to her new home.
