***SAFE 09/22/16*** WHO DOESN’T LOVE A MUFFIN? This MUFFIN was dumped by her family for allergies. Now this perfectly healthy cat stands to die because she is afraid in the scary shelter. MUFFIN is 5 years old and lived with a small dog which she ignored. She has been around very young children but would just hide from them. We won’t go there. MUFFIN is a good cat who got the boot and was forced into circumstances where she is now afraid. So instead of helping her adjust the ACC punished her with a NEW HOPE rating and sent her off to the euth list. MUFFIN NEEDS A NEW HOME AND PURRSON TO LOVE HER AND HELP HER GET OVER THIS TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE. IF YOU WANT A NEW BEST FRIEND, IGNORE THE NEW HOPE RATING AND ADOPT MUFFIN! SHE IS A GOOD GIRL AND DESERVES A HAPPY ENDING TO HER STORY.

09/12/16 11:19 BASIC INFO Muffin is a 2.5 year old female cat. She was born at home. Her family surrendered her due to allergies. SOCIALIZATION Muffin is shy with new people. She lived with an infant from 0-10 months old and spent time with 2 children ages 2-5 who visited. Muffin avoids the children. If they approach her, she growls, hisses, strikes, and runs away. Muffin also scratches them when they pass from hiding under furniture. She hasn’t scratched anyone in the past 10 days. She hasn’t bit anyone. Muffin lived with her sister and was relaxed and played exuberantly with her. She lived with a small dog and ignored him. BEHAVIOR Muffin enjoys being brushed. She doesn’t mind being woken up. She struggles when picked up. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Muffin’s family describes her as friendly, playful, independent, talkative, and medium energy. She follows her family. She plays with balls and string. She lived inside and slept on a cat bed. She ate dry and wet Meow Mix food. She is littertrained, used a hooded litterbox with clay litter, and didn’t have accidents. Muffin scratched a vertical post covered in rough rope. She only scratched the couch when she didn’t have a scratching post. INTAKE Muffin was tense and crouched, looking around with wide eyes while I pet her, scanned her (-), collared her, took her pictures, and put her in a carrier. She sometimes meowed and sometimes growled very slowly. She didn’t resist.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Muffin is shy with new people. She lived with an infant from 0-10 months old and spent time with 2 children ages 2-5 who visited. Muffin avoids the children. If they approach her, she becomes defensive (growls, hisses, strikes, and runs away). Muffin also scratches them when they pass from hiding under furniture. However, Muffin’s family described her as friendly, playful, independent, talkative, and medium energy. Reaction to assessor: Muffin looks tense, crouched position on her cage bedding when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Muffin remains in place, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Muffin does not allow the touch then hisses and growls at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: NH ONLY Muffin is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. She is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
