Hello, my name is Muenster. My animal id is #14268. I am a desexed male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 21-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.
Original Location: 10028
Muenster is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory infection, which is contagious to other cats. Muenster will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no behavior concerns for Muenster at this time, Average determination.

Behavior Condition: 5. Red
The admissions counselor opened the carrier and he allowed him to rubbed his head. His eyes became extremely dilated, ears apart and he attempted to swat at me. He charged at the gate and was hesitating to come out the carrier.

Basic Information:: Muenster is a 1 years old neutered male domestic short hair black and white cat. His front paws are declawed. He was adopted from a person of Craigslist 1 1/2 years ago. He was surrendered to MACC because the other male cat did not get along well with him. He has no history of health problems.
If yes, Please elaborate:: He was really good at utilizing the litter box but lately every time he made eye contact with the other male cat in the house he urinated in the spot.
Previously lived with:: 2 Adults, 1 Child, 1 cat, 1 dog
How is this cat around strangers?: The previous owner stated that he was friendly around strangers.
How is this cat around children?: He was friendly with children and lived with a 12 years old who he was affectionate towards.
How is this cat around other cats?: He lived with a 8 years old neutered male cat who he did not play with. The other cat was not very interested in him thus the two rarely interacted.
How is this cat around dogs?: He lived with a 5 years old female large dog whom he was affectionate towards. The two tolerated each other.
Behavior Notes: He started having litter box accidents 2 months ago and was not taken to the vet for this issue. The client believed that this was stress related due to her older cat scaring him. He enjoyed car rides and being picked up and held. He was not bothered by baths, and being placed inside the carrier.
Bite history:: He has a person bite history and has never bitten another animal.
Energy level/descriptors:: High.
Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
Medical Notes: He has no known medical problems or injuries.
For a New Family to Know: He was described as friendly and affectionate. His favorite activity was chasing after toys. His favorite toys were balls, bottlecaps, stuffed and catnip toys. He was kept mostly indoors. He slept in his owner’s bed. His diet consisted of meow mix and fancy feast wet and dry cat food. His favorite treats were temptation cat treats. He was very litter box trained and had a domed litter box filled with clumping litter. He was declawed and did not required a scratching post.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: 2 Adults, 1 Child, 1 cat, 1 dog Behavior toward strangers: Friendly Behavior toward children: Friendly and affectionate Behavior toward cats: Rarely interacted with the other cat Behavior toward dogs: Affectionate and tolerant Bite or Scratch history: Has bitten the owner when the other cat in the home was about to attack him, but the owner grabbed him before the other cat could attack. He bit the owner on the wrist during the altercation. Litter box training: Yes, but started having accidents lately due to the other cat not getting along with him Energy level/descriptors: He was described as friendly and affectionate with a high activity level. Other notes: His favorite activity was chasing after toys. His favorite toys were balls, bottle caps, stuffed and catnip toys.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -untouchable. screaming, howling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/22/17 Reported not getting along with other cat in home. Crouched at front, eyes fully dilated. Started hissing on approach. Hissed, growled, slowly retreated when cage cover lifted. Left alone for now.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Muenster was lying down, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Muenster chirps and looks at the assessor before stretching out his legs. He can be heard purring.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Muenster greets the assessor by the opening and was calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Muenster chirps and sniffs the assessor’s hand, and then head-butts. He accepts petting all over and continues to purr.
Reaction to being picked up:: Muenster remains calm and continues to purr when held.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Inappropriate elimination
Potential challenges comments:: Muenster’s previous owners report that he was eliminating outside the litter box. We are unaware if any modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home, but the owner believes the cause to these accidents were because he was stressed from the older cat, who wasn’t getting along with him. We recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment.
