*** SAFE 02/08/16 ***MAKE WAY FOR BEAUTIFUL MS. KING! Ms. King is a lovely nine year old, spayed black and white sweetheart who was sadly surrendered when her former owner decided to move into a smaller apartment and not take her along. She was described as a “good and loving cat.” Ms. King lived with a large dog at one time but has not been around other cats. She is reported to be gentle and relaxed around kids. Ms. King was reported to be very friendly when being handled at the shelter but then got grumpy when someone tried to shave her matted hair. Who could blame her? She has been slapped with a NH rating but this is definitely the kind of kitty who is used to being a housepet and will definitely chill once she feels safe and sound. Won’t you please open your heart and home to this precious pet? Contact a rescue if you can help Ms. King. Email our help desk and we will assist you through the process–[email protected] You have the chance to make a difference, be a hero and receive lots of love and affection in return for saving a life. 02/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ms. King’s previous owner reports she has lived with two adults and is shy around strangers. She will usually stay hidden when visitors enter the home. She had limited interactions with children and was described as gentle and relaxed. She will rub the child and allow petting, but will not engage in play. She was relaxed around a large breed dog in which she lived with many years ago, but is fearful around other dogs. Ms. King will struggle when placed in a carrier and will struggle and flee when held. She has a medium activity level and tends to be in the same room as her owner. The previous owner does mention that Ms. King would swat and scratch, and then retreat. They believe she swats as a form of communication. Reaction to Assessor: Ms. King was growling in her cage with a cage cover over it. She hisses and growls louder when the cover was removed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Ms. King starts to yowl and continues to hiss. Reaction to cage door opening: Ms. King hisses and starts to snarl. Reaction to touch: Ms. King does not allow touch; she charges and strikes at the assessor’s hand. Ms. King will rarely have accidents outside her litter box, and will only do so when her litter box is not cleaned. The owner stated she did not take her to the vet for this issue and stated she believes it was due to her wanting her litter box cleaned more often. Ms. King prefers her litter box to be cleaned out once a day. We recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Placement Determination: New Hope Only Ms. King is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
