SAFE 2/17/16 A staff member writes, “I seriously cannot get enough of this cat, he’s just so cute! Mr. Mangoes is a ball of energy, and he loves to play with anything and everything that moves, so be ready for lots of acrobatics around the home! While his manners need some work, his pictures don’t do him justice. He has such a gorgeous orange tabby coat that you must see it to believe it. Mangoes is looking for a home that understands how mischievous kittens can be, and help him grow into a well-rounded and polite adult cat. Will that be you? Come meet Mr. Mangoes today.”

Reaction to cage door opening: Mr. Mangoes remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch: Mr. Mangoes allows brief petting, but whines and attempts to grab the assessor’s hand and nips. He doesn’t break skin, but seems frustrated and attempts to hold onto the assessor’s hand.
Reaction to being picked up: Mr. Mangoes allows handling but whines.
Behavior Determination: Experience
Mr. Mangoes has displayed social and affectionate behavior when he was first brought to the care center, but he now appears to be easily overstimulated. This may be due to his length of stay and the lack of exercise and space. He may be a cat that needs a lot of interactive stimulation and enrichment. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Mr. Mangoes becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. Any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.

Mr. Mangoes was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The finder found him inside their apartment and has been roaming around the hallway. He ran into their apartment twice and allowed the finder to handle him. He did not struggle and was easily placed into a carrier. He was very friendly and purred loudly from inside the carrier upon intake. He allowed all handling throughout the intake process and during his initial medical exam.
Reaction to assessor: Mr. Mangoes was playing with random objects in his cage.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Mr. Mangoes pounces to the front and reaches out with his paws.
Reaction to cage door opening: Mr. Mangoes remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch: Mr. Mangoes head-butts, begins to purr loudly, leans into petting, and starts to play gently with the assessor’s hands.
Reaction to being picked up: Mr. Mangoes remains calm and allows handling.
Behavior Determination: Beginner
Mr. Mangoes interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.

Mr Mangoes was found inside of the finder’s apartment building. The finder said that Mr Mangoes has been out in his hallway since 1/25/2016 and has ran inside of his apartment twice already. Mr mangoes allowed the finder to handle him. He did not struggle when being put inside of a carrier and the finder fed him 9 lives wet cat food.
Behavior during intake
Me mangoes was very friendly and purred loudly from inside of the carrier. He allowed me to take him out and scan(-) him. I placed him on the backdrop and positioned him for photos. He purred as I pet the top of his head and carried him. I then transferred him into a kennel.
